The Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command, Paraded two drug suspects at the Command Headquarters today, July 18, 2023, and recovered 10 bags of hard drugs. Handover suspects and exhibits suspected to be Indian hemp to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The suspects, identified as Fidelis Otiba (M), 49 years old, and Chukwuma Kennedy (M), 50 years old, were arrested by police operations at the Ansuanni Division through intelligence gathering, according to the Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, through his PPRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, at a press conference in the State Police Command.
The suspects were intercepted in a Toyota Sienna Space Bus with Registration Number KJA 118 HV containing 10 bags of hard drugs suspected to be Indian Hemp in a successful operation and arrested.
In its statement, the Lagos Police PPRO said the police have done the necessary investigations on the case to some extent and have decided to hand over the suspects and the exhibits to the relevant authorities in charge of combating drug abuse, the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), to continue with the investigation, conclude the investigation thoroughly, and prosecute the suspects according to the law.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin reiterated that CP Idowu Owohunwa is committed to partnering with the public and NDLEA to ensure that Lagos State becomes a drug-free society under his leadership.
The Assistant Commander of Narcotics, who represented the NDLEA commander to receive the suspect, Assistant Commander Zofun Joseph Setonji, deeply appreciated the Lagos State Police Command led by CP Idowu Owohunwa for a great job in combating crime in the state.
While receiving the documents from the Lagos State Police Commissioner through its Police Public Relations Office, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Assistant Commander Zofun, said that all hands must be on deck to ensure that we rid the country of hard drugs. “Today, we are witnessing another positive example of a healthy synergy between the Nigeria Police Force and the NDLEA. We want to encourage members of the public not to hoard relevant information that will help NDLEA win the war against drug abuse. If we fail to fight this war today, our children will suffer it.” he said.
The NDLEA Assistant Commander, Zofun, signed the handover documents presented by the Lagos Police Command, after which officers of the NDLEA took the suspects and the exhibits out of police custody.
