SHINE YOUR EYES AHEAD 2023 ELECTIONS: DR. MONDAY UBANI PLEADS WITH NIGERIANS SAYS ‘WE NEED GOOD THINGS NOT MONEY’

As political activities intensify for the general elections in 2023, popular human rights lawyer, Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani has advised Nigerians to choose right because it will determine the kind of governance that the citizenry will enjoy.

Popularly called MOU by his admirers, Barr. Ubani made this call on the sidelines of his father’s funeral last weekend in Abia state.

Speaking to members of the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP at the funeral, the Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL), Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani established: ‘The choices we make determine our future. We are being retarded because of the wrong choices we have made. What we are clamoring for is good governance at the federal, state, and LG level. See how you spent hours on the road from Lagos to the East when a fast-track train can take you 2-3 hours just as if you are moving from London to Southampton but that is good governance. Here, some people sleep on the road before they can get to the East from Lagos.’

‘We need good things not money. Everyone looks at money and empowerment not infrastructure which is bad. If I create roads, light, everyone will be happy, no one will steal, no one will kill. We need to think of that’, he told NAOSNP Team.

In the light of the social vices and crimes that is on the rise in the society, the only son of late Pa Ubani Egbedubi Nwokocha (aka Egoro Oti) traced the challenge back to the homes. ‘There is an Igbo proverb that says something like if your father tells you to steal, you will steal without fear or trepidation but with so much courage because your father encouraged you. If your father is an adulterer, you will do it with impunity because you have observed it from him.

Children observe and become fixated to what they observe from the parents. What we can do to nip vices in the bud is home training, that is teaching your children on the path of righteousness and making them know that there is God who punishes unrighteousness and you practicing it because you can’t preach and not practice which puts them in a state of confusion.’

Barr. Ubani made the call for diligence, ‘Parents need to live by example so we won’t have issues that we have today in which 90% of those in EFCC nets are 419ers. The get-rich-quick syndrome is a big problem that we have to teach our children hardwork and diligence. Also to make good wealth because that is what stays in your hand rather than the ill-gotten wealth which disappears’.

‘The behavior at home is a reflection of what happens in the society. If you go to England, most of them are different people brought up in Africa. Once a child is born, the society is already making plans and arrangement for him to make sure he is not maltreated. If it happens, they take the child away from the parent and put in a foster home’, Barr. Ubani concluded.
