Institute Stresses Need For Technology Accessibility, Development

The Institute of Educational Leadership Practitioners of Nigeria (IELPN) on Friday stressed the need for technology accessibility in teaching and learning, for even development of the country.

 

The institute, known for its human capital development to suit contemporary demands; made the assertion at a Press Conference held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) Magodo, Lagos.

 

It was to Herald the institute’s 2nd annual conference tagged EDUTECH 2022.

 

The conference meant to bring service providers and resource persons together would be held in Lagos from August 10 to August 11.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos reports that, the conference to sensitive people on importance of technology had the theme “Educational Technology Accessibility and Equity in Teaching and Learning”.

 

In her address at the event, the Registrar of IELPN, Dr Olufunmilayo Olusa, described technology as a catalyst to improved human and resources development, urged professionals to widen their scope in innovations to bear on the nation’s social-economic sphere.

 

The registrar, frowned at the dwindling fortunes of the country, said that the revolution in the nation’s telecom sector could be replicated in other stratas of our national life through technology.

 

Olusa, expressed dismay on less attention to the wonders of technology, tasked corporate organisations and the state actors to assist IELPN to carry out it’s mandate, saying youth unemployment widening gap, could be halted with improved accessibility to technology in teaching and learning.

 

According to her the crave for wealth creation for the common good should prompt an empirical reasoning within research institutions and professional bodies to make use of technology to better the life of the society.

 

“The availability of technology to students will make teaching and learning more fascinating and people will be challenged to think out of the box to proffer solutions to the myriad of social problems of people.

 

“Accessibility to technology is key. The institute is broadening the scope by bringing to the fore all concerned to define the priorities and chat way forward through the conference.

 

“The subsisting introduction of online registrations for studies and certificate examinations such as JAMB makes it imperative for us to find window through which technology devices that aids studies and researches such as tablets are made available to people,” she said.

 

She regretted that students in the nation’s schools still lag behind their peers in other climes in the use of information technology devices to solve problems.

 

In his remark at the event, the Chairman of the 2022 conference, and Fellow of the institute, Venerable Adelowo Adesina, said that, the group’s portal was open for participants registeration ahead of the forthcoming conference.

 

The chairman encouraged teachers and educational leaders to register for a robust deliberation, saying the importance of technology in teaching and learning cannot be overemphasized.

“Technology is the only tool that helps to improve the education system in different ways.

 

“From teachers to students, technology leaves a vast impact on education.

“Modern EdTech makes education more flexible and perceptive. Various technology driven education tools have introduced free online resources, personalised learning materials, more engaging content, and a better understanding of visuals and opportunities for advanced learning.” he said.

 

He called for support from members and education lovers to assist the institute achieve its goals.

 

He said that it was critical that the society maintain a laser focus on the goal of achieving a high, technology-driven, sustainable standard of education.

 

He pointed out that most of the things government cannot address is what the institute wants to address and also bringing to fore ways to revive the educational system in Nigeria.

 

He also called on teachers to have high self esteem and be proud of what they do saying, “If you are not proud of what you do, you cannot raise a generation that will be proud of what they do. As a teacher, your wants may not be met but your needs would be met satisfactorily.”

 

IELP is a new development for education in Nigeria aimed at delivering excellence in leadership by supporting education leaders and practitioners to establish a strong vision.

 

Improve student outcomes and lead change in their school context and wider school communities.
