AHEAD 2023: 100,000 IKEJA YOUTHS SET TO WALK FOR TINUBU, FALEKE; SAYS SUPPORT MUST BEGIN AT HOME

By People’s Voice Nigeria | News

A coalition of youth groups in Ikeja Federal Constituency, the political home of the Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu have pledged their unalloyed support for the candidacy of their hero. As part of widening the support base, they have announced a massive 100,000 Youth Walk to hold within Ikeja and its environs on Saturday 27th August 2022. The Walk is a double edger as it will drum support for the reelection of Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Ikeja federal constituency

At a press conference attended by People’s Voice Nigeria | News reporter in Lagos, the group emphasized that the Walk is to showcase the leaders. ‘We are doing this to encourage them to do more. To whom much is given, much is expected. Nobody is sponsoring us to what we are doing. One of the reasons for this is to galvanize our youths to make them see how much our leaders have impacted the lives of youths.

One of the rallying points for us is that Asiwaju Tinubu is from Ikeja. Asiwaju has brought the ticket home, it’s time for him to bring the seat home. But we have to get all the youths to back Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Hon. James Faleke. Aside the walk, we will do other things. We are also going to hold sports activities and musical programs to showcase our youths.’

Present at the media briefing were the leadership of the coalition which include Hon. Francis, the Supervisor for Agriculture in Onigbongbo LCDA; Hon. Omotosho, the SA on Environment in Onigbongbo LCDA; Mr. Olalekan Oni, Hon. Yusuf Khadijat. Others present were Comrade Wale, the NYCN coordinator in Ikeja, Alhaji Ogunaike representing Hon. James Faleke, among others.

One-minute silence was observed in honour of a great leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), the late Chief Kemi Nelson who passed away few weeks ago.

Explaining the importance of the public awareness initiative, Mr. Olalekan Oni said: ‘We are here to inform the public about the 100,000 Youth Walk for our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who by God’s Grace is the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our indefatigable representative, Hon. James Faleke who is seeking reelection. We have taken the lead to show our support for these two leaders.’

Reeling out the achievements of the former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he shared: ‘We know what Asiwaju has done for youths as Governor and how he appointed youths as commissioners and many other achievements. Segun Dawodu who is current Commissioner for Sports and Social Development was appointed then at 36 as one of the commissioners of Asiwaju. Dr. Muiz Banire was 33 when he was appointed Commissioner for Special Duties.

Babatunde Fashola was appointed at 39 as Chief of Staff. Even the current Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu was appointed as Special Adviser to Asiwaju at 37 while Folorunsho Folarin Coker was appointed as Personal Assistant to Asiwaju at 36 just to mention a few. He chose many young people who are under 40.’

‘As at the time that Asiwaju was Governor, he coordinated the activities of youth organizations and successfully embarked on empowering Ikeja youths in particular. He developed youth centres and sporting centres and recreational facilities in Badagry, Lagos Island, and Alimosho in 2000.

He gave a sum of N299 million to NECO for the cost of SSCE for 40,000 students. Through the Ministry of Education, Asiwaju gave bursary grants for the year 1999/2000 to 3324 indigenes in tertiary institutions at the sum of N3000 for each student.

In year 2000, he launched the renewed Neighborhood Watch with at least 5000 youths who worked under the Police and were equipped with walkie-talkie. These are some of his achievements as Governor and that is why we are saying that Asiwaju deserves to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’, he mentioned other achievements to People’s Voice Nigeria | News.

He furthered: ‘As Ikeja youths we are not just saying so because we want to benefit but because we know that Asiwaju will bring the youths of Nigeria to the fore. The issue of unemployment will be tackled and other sundry issues. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the best candidate for the job.’

Khadijah; Alhaji Abass Abiodun; Spokesperson, Coalition of Ikeja Youths, Mr. Oni Olalekan; Mr. Francis Nkwo; Mr. Omotosho Paul Folu and Prof. Ken during the press briefing on the forthcoming Coalition of Ikeja Youths for ‘Tinubu and Faleke’ 100,000 Youths Walk holding on the 27th August.

‘The gulf between youths and the reality of politics is being closed up by those of us who are youths that have joined. So we are not only on social media, we are on the streets and in the neighborhood among our siblings. We talk about the policies that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Hon. James Faleke are bringing on board. The galvanizing has started but it will increase momentum. We are also taking advantage of all social media platforms because everything has gone technological. It is an opportunity for us to advertise our candidates.’

On why they are using the strategy of the Youth Walk, Oni told People’s Voice Nigeria | News, ‘Ikeja federal constituency has 707 polling units and we have about 9 million young people that have registered. So we are aware that young people are ready to vote this time. But we are also not sitting on social media. This is also another strategy. We are looking at having at least one representative in the polling units apart from what the party will do. Their job is to canvass on the day of elections apart from what we would have done before the election.’
