Ambassador Daniel Koussou, CEO and Founder of Dau-O-Gik Oil and Gas Ltd, has been nominated as the African Union (AU) Special Envoy on Oil and Gas (Continental). The appointment underscores his pivotal role in advancing Africa’s energy agenda within the framework of the AU’s Agenda 2063, the continent’s 50-year plan for socio-economic transformation, sustainable development, and regional integration.
In his new capacity, Koussou will advocate for policies that ensure Africa’s hydrocarbon resources contribute meaningfully to industrialisation, energy security, and continental prosperity. He will also represent the AU in international energy forums, ensuring Africa’s developmental needs are highlighted amid global decarbonisation and energy transition debates.
Dau-O-Gik Oil and Gas Ltd operates across both upstream and downstream segments, focusing on energy trading, supply, and operational support. Koussou’s leadership has helped the company navigate challenges such as market volatility, regulatory changes, and foreign exchange constraints through prudent risk management, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making.
“At the heart of Agenda 2063 is the vision of an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens,” said Koussou. “I am committed to ensuring Africa’s oil and gas resources are leveraged for sustainable growth, shared prosperity, and lasting peace across the continent.”
Koussou’s appointment is a continuation of his distinguished diplomatic and business career. Recently, he was appointed by BIGWIL International Community of CEOs and Diplomatic Forum, under the International Human Rights Observatory – Africa (IHRO-Africa), to chair the Committee on Economic Diplomacy, Trade, and Investment for the Nigeria chapter.
Known for a structured and analytical approach, Koussou prioritises transparency, adaptability, and practical, data-driven solutions, ensuring that both personal and business challenges are addressed with resilience and long-term sustainability. His leadership is expected to foster meaningful dialogue about Nigeria’s economic potential and Africa’s strategic position in global energy discussions.
Ambassador Koussou’s nomination as AU Special Envoy on Oil and Gas comes at a crucial moment, signalling Africa’s commitment to harnessing its energy resources to drive industrialisation, continental integration, and economic growth while maintaining a strong presence on the global stage.
