In a further demonstration of its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Anambra State, the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), under the leadership of Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has approved the facelift of the Trauma Centre at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka.
The approval covers the landscaping of the Trauma Centre’s car park and the contract has been awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd.
The State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed that the decision was taken during the 25th ANSEC meeting held at the Lighthouse, Awka, on December 15, 2025, alongside several other key policy resolutions.
Healthcare remains a top priority of the Soludo administration and has been given significant attention in the 2026 Budget Proposal, which underscores the government’s resolve to deliver accessible, efficient, and quality healthcare services to Ndi Anambra.
The budget, recently presented to the Anambra State House of Assembly, earmarks ₦162.6 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦595.3 billion for capital projects. It places strong emphasis on the construction of new schools, rehabilitation of existing ones, and the completion of critical healthcare infrastructure across the state.
As part of ongoing interventions in the health sector, the Soludo administration is also completing strategic investments in the healthcare ecosystem, including the completion of the College of Nursing and the construction of a specialist teaching hospital with a focus on oncology.
Governor Soludo has also recorded remarkable milestones in maternal and child healthcare. Under his administration, over 161,197 pregnant women have benefited from free antenatal and delivery services, including 594 free caesarean sections, all with zero maternal mortality—a feat widely regarded as a major boost to public health outcomes in the state.
In addition, the government has constructed four brand-new general hospitals in local government areas that previously had none, while work is nearing completion on the construction, modernisation, and equipping of 326 primary healthcare centres. These facilities are being powered with solar energy, supported by boreholes, and fitted with essential medical equipment to guarantee reliable and quality service delivery.
Popularly known as the Solution Governor—a title publicly acknowledged by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the commissioning of landmark projects in Anambra—Governor Soludo is also committed to completing the Coordinated Wholesale Centre in Oba, projected to become the largest drug market in Africa.
In recognition of these strides, Governor Soludo was, in 2024, named the Most Performing Governor in Primary Healthcare in the Southeast and nationally. The awards came with a total cash prize of $1.2 million—$500,000 for regional excellence and $700,000 for overall national performance under the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.
The latest ANSEC approval further reinforces the administration’s holistic approach to healthcare development, positioning Anambra State as a leading model for health sector reform in Nigeria.
