Buhari Makes New Appointments and Requests Senate Confirmation

On Tuesday, the Senate was asked to confirm Professor Mansur Auwalu Bindawa’s nomination as a Non-Executive Commissioner of the Nigerian Communications Commission. 

The request was made in a letter dated January 10, 2022, and was read out on the Senate floor by Senate President Ahmad Lawan. 

In the letter, President Buhari said that the request was made in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Act. 

President Buhari also asked the chamber to confirm the nominations of Nnamonso Ekanem (Akwa-Ibom) and Mahmud Abubakar Magaji (Niger) to the Federal Judicial Service Commission in a letter dated January 4, 2022. 

The South-South and North-Central zones are scheduled to be represented by Ekanem and Magaji, respectively. 

“In accordance with Section 154 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigerians (as amended), I hereby present for confirmation by the Senate the following two (2) names of members of the Federal Judicial Service Commission, who have been appointed in consultation with the Council of State,” the letter reads in part.
