Lagos State Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh was represented by ACP Jayeoba Idowu at “A Day Summit On Transportation In Lagos State” Organized by NLC Lagos State Council
The Lagos State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress organised A Day Summit On Transportation with the Theme :’Addressing The Challenges of Transportation and Commuters in Lagos State’ The Chief Host is Comrade Chief Agnes Funmi Sessi.
ACP Jayeoba Idowu who represents Lagos CP, describe Lagos State as a vibrant megacity, the heartbeat of Nigeria’s economy. It is a place where millions converge daily: commuters rushing to work, transporters navigating bustling streets, and unions advocating for the rights and welfare of their members. Yet, as we-all know, this dynamism comes with formidable challenges. Traffic congestion chokes our roads, leading to lost productivity and heightened stress. Safety concerns, from reckless driving to criminal activities on our highways, threaten lives and livelihoods. Inadequate infrastructure strains our public transport systems, while environmental impacts like pollution erode the quality of life for all.

ACP Jayeoba further said that “These challenges are not abstract. They are the lived realities of our people. As representatives of the Lagos State Police Command, we see them firsthand. Our officers are on the frontlines, enforcing traffic regulations, responding to accidents, and ensuring security in transport hubs. But enforcement alone is not enough. True progress demands collaboration, and that is why this summit is very important. It enables collaboration between government, employers, and employees from unions affiliateg With the NLC to forge partnerships that can transform our transport sector.”
ACP Jayeoba Idowu highlights a few key areas where collaborative action can yield transformative outcomes:
- Enhancing road safety through joint initiatives. where transporters, commuters, and law enforcement co-design safety campaigns. Unions could lead training programs on defensive driving, while the police provide data-driven insights on high-risk areas. By integrating technology like real-time traffic apps and CCTV networks, we can reduce accidents and save lives.
-
Addressing congestion and promoting sustainable mobility.
-
Fostering inclusive stakeholder engagement. Sustainability thrives on inclusivity.
We must ensure that women, youth, and persons with disabilities in the transport sector have a seat at the table. Unions, with your grassroots reach, are ideally positioned to amplify these voices. The police stand ready to collaborate on anti-harassment measures in public transport and to protect union activities that promote equity.
