To ensure that Nigeria is a peaceful and undivided country that the Black race can be proud of is a responsibility that the entire citizenry must participate in. This is the submission of the National PRO of Department of State Service (DSS), Dr. Peter Afunanya at the 2022 annual National CrimeWatch Awards organized by Tony Okpe Communications in Lagos. The PRO also used the opportunity to charge media professionals to set agenda for peaceful coexistence for Nigeria, People’s Voice Nigeria can report.
Addressing the security issues, Dr. Afunanya said: ‘For us at the DSS, we believe that the issue of security rests in the hands of everyone. We must combine in synergy and collaboration to achieve a united Nigeria and peaceful Nigeria. Avoid things that will cause chaos and disorder in our nation. As a collective whole, we have to realize that there is no other country that we can call our own. Everyone of us must be committed to building the nation of our dreams. It is an issue that must be collectively pursued. If you have the news of anybody who wants to undermine the security of Nigeria, report them to the nearest security agency.’

To media professionals, the DSS spokesperson charged: ‘Are you interested in setting agenda for peaceful coexistence?
Do you want to bring out the image of Nigeria that has no hope or the image of Nigeria that is peaceful? The media will propagate news but what kind of news – to unite or to divide?’
‘I want to tell Nigerians to shun fake news, hate speech, and narrative that will bring about a divided Nigeria, bring down the government, and spoil the image of Nigeria in the international community’, People’s Voice Nigeria online news gathered.
On the coming yuletide, ‘Crime may likely be on the rise as we go into the festive season but it behooves us to provide appropriate information to the security agencies. If agencies are not doing much, it would have been worse so have faith in them and in Nigeria’, Afunanya concluded.
