In a bold leap for Nigeria’s digital banking sector, First Bank of Nigeria has announced a groundbreaking achievement, crossing ₦1 trillion in cumulative instant digital loan disbursements. This milestone marks a historic moment in the evolution of financial access, driven by technology and aimed at deepening inclusion across the nation.

Since the launch of its digital lending service in August 2019, FirstBank has deployed Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to build a seamless, multi-channel platform accessible via *894#, FirstMobile, LitApp, and the FirstMonie Agent App. Through FirstAdvance, FirstCredit, and AgentCredit products, more than 1.5 million Nigerians have received instant, collateral-free loans whether they’re salaried employees, non-salary earners, or microbusiness operators.

In a press statement e-signed and made available to the public by the Acting Group Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, FirstBank celebrated this achievement as a testament to its customer-focused innovation.

“This success underscores our ongoing commitment to innovation and a customer-focused approach, which are central to FirstBank’s core values. Beyond achieving substantial figures, we remain dedicated to fostering opportunities for financial independence across Nigeria in particular, and in Africa at large,” the statement read.

With daily loan disbursements now exceeding ₦1 billion, the Bank’s performance reflects not just technological leadership, but also its impact on everyday Nigerians seeking financial empowerment.

FirstBank’s legacy, dating back to 1894, continues to grow through its extensive footprint in Africa, Europe, and Asia. The Bank currently supports over 43 million customer accounts and operates through more than 820 branches and 280,000 agent locations covering 772 local government areas in Nigeria.

In addition to digital transformation, the Bank’s commitment to diversity, female empowerment, and sustainable development has earned it multiple international accolades in recent years—cementing its role as Africa’s bank of first choice.

As the ₦1 trillion milestone is etched into history, FirstBank looks ahead with renewed vision to redefine banking across the continent anchored in trust, innovation, and inclusive growth.
