It was a moment of celebration and renewed hope for residents of Segun Awolowo Street in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, as Hon. Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, Member of the House of Representatives, officially commissioned the newly constructed road in an event witnessed by The People’s Voice Nigeria correspondent.

The atmosphere at the ceremony reflected both excitement and relief, as residents gathered in large numbers to witness what many described as the end of years of infrastructural neglect.

Chairman of the Landlords and Residents Association, Comrade Ojedokun Peters, in his address, described the development as “a new dawn” for the community. He noted that past administrations had failed to respond to their repeated appeals, adding that the intervention by Hon. Onuakalusi has significantly improved the standard of living in the area.

According to observations at the event, the newly constructed road is expected to ease movement, reduce travel time, and improve access to businesses and markets within the community. Residents and traders expressed optimism that the development would stimulate economic activities, increase property value, and attract further investments.

The project builds on earlier interventions by the lawmaker. In 2025, Hon. Onuakalusi had donated and commissioned a 300KVA transformer for the community, addressing long-standing electricity challenges. Residents confirmed that the improved power supply has enhanced small-scale businesses and daily living conditions.

In addition to infrastructure development, Hon. Onuakalusi also empowered women in the community during the event by distributing grinding machines and sewing machines, a move aimed at boosting household income and supporting local entrepreneurship.

The commissioning ceremony attracted notable personalities, including Alhaji Abdul Razaq Adebisi Jegede, a 96-year-old veteran politician; Chief John Uche, Campaign Director-General to Hon. Onuakalusi; Mrs. Adeola, who represented Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of the African Democratic Congress (ADC); Alhaji Toriola; and Bishop Remigus Agu, among others.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Onuakalusi reaffirmed his commitment to sustained development across Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, revealing plans to provide a solar-powered borehole and install solar streetlights in the community to improve water access and security.

Residents, visibly elated, described the project as a “dream come true,” with many expressing their appreciation and support for the lawmaker’s continued efforts.

The development is expected to contribute to broader economic growth within Lagos State by enhancing connectivity and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
