Moshood Takes Charge as Zone 2 AIG, Decorates 7 ACPs, Vows Tough Stance on Crime

The newly appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Jimoh Olorundare Moshood, on Monday officially assumed duty as the 34th AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.

The ceremony, attended by senior police officers, stakeholders, and members of the media, also featured the decoration of seven officers recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

 

The promoted officers are ACP Abel Ademola, ACP Aderonke Bakare, ACP Raji Ganiyu, ACP Iliazu Mohammed Lawal, ACP Samuel Ijachi, ACP Olusola Knight, and ACP Olufemi Oyekanmi.

In his inaugural address, AIG Moshood expressed gratitude to God and appreciation to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for the confidence reposed in him, describing his appointment as a call to greater responsibility.

 

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to its core mandates, including crime prevention, protection of lives and property, and enforcement of the law in line with the Constitution and other relevant statutes.

 

Highlighting the strategic importance of Lagos and Ogun States, the AIG assured residents of proactive, intelligence-driven policing, noting that efforts would be intensified to strengthen security across the zone.

 

He also emphasized community-based policing, stating that the command would work closely with stakeholders to ensure safety in homes, workplaces, and public spaces.

 

Moshood warned officers against misconduct, stressing that there would be zero tolerance for corruption, abuse of office, and human rights violations.

 

He called for professionalism, discipline, and strict adherence to the rule of law in all operations.

 

Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Abel Ademola expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the promotion and thanked God for the opportunity to witness the milestone.

“We thank God for preserving our lives to witness this day. For some of us, this journey started over three decades ago,” he said.

 

Ademola also expressed confidence in the leadership of the new AIG, praying for a successful and impactful tenure.

 

AIG Moshood, who hails from Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, joined the Nigeria Police Force in 2000 and has served in various operational, administrative, and international assignments.

 

Prior to his promotion, he was the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

He called on residents of Lagos and Ogun States to remain law-abiding and support the Police with credible information to enhance security across the zone.
