An accident that occurred on Ife-Osogbo road on Thursday has claimed the life of a final-year student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, identified as Miss Esu Rita Ema.

The incident, which happened around noon threw students of OAU into mourning.

The deceased, a student of the Department of French of the institution tragically lost her life in a fatal accident near the university’s main gate.

Rita was on her way to submit her final-year project.

It was gathered that a speeding car hit the female undergraduate and immediately ran over her when she attempted to cross the Ife-Ibadan express road, which is a stone’s throw from the campus entrance.

The deceased was holding a copy of her project which eyewitnesses said she was going to submit to her supervisor on campus.

The National President of the National Association of Osun State Students, Akinnibi Miftahu, said he witnessed the fatal crash, saying the killing of the student looked suspicious.

“Right in my presence, a complete human being was cut into pieces.

”It was as if the driver was only sent to kill and dismember her body part, because as brutal as the accident was, nothing happened to the guy. He stepped out of the car like he was not the driver,” Miftahu said.

Another eyewitness who did not want his name in print, noted that the impact of the collision was devastating.

He added that Rita’s body was “terribly shattered.”

The tragic accident drew a large crowd of students, traders, commuters, and security personnel, all of whom were left in shock and grief by the sudden loss of a promising young life.
