The Director General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Mrs. Tenioye Majekodunmi, delivered the keynote address at The first Energy Efficiency & Sustainable Cooling Investment Marketplace held today in Lagos, in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL).
In her remarks, the DG underscored the urgency of scaling energy-efficient and climate-smart cooling solutions as Nigeria faces rising temperatures, increasing demand for cooling, and pressure on the national power system. She reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitments under the Global Cooling Pledge, the Kigali Amendment, and the recently approved NDC 3.0, where sustainable cooling has been embedded as a core national priority.

She highlighted ongoing government efforts—including strengthened refrigerant regulation, technician training, efficiency standards, and progress toward a National Cooling Action Plan—while emphasising the need for whole-of-government and whole-of-society collaboration.
The DG called for bold private-sector innovation, stronger financing mechanisms, and deeper subnational action to ensure equitable, affordable, and sustainable cooling for all Nigerians. She affirmed NCCC’s readiness to work with SEforALL, MDAs, states, investors, and development partners to mobilise large-scale investment and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to a low-carbon, energy-efficient cooling future.
