NEWS FLASH: POLICE IMPOSE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ILLICIT DRUGS, DESTROY DRUGS WORTH MILLIONS OF NAIRA

The stench and smoke of dangerous drugs worth millions of naira are currently reaching the clouds as a joint security operation led by DCP Ahmed Kontagora, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations at the Lagos State Command, destroys the hard drugs in Ewu-Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Officers from the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) intercepted the illicit drugs before they reached the streets and harmed the physical and mental health of Nigerian youths.

Trek Africa News correspondent who observed the exercise at the destruction site in Ikorodu report that the entire contents would take 6 hours to be properly charred.

Men and officers from the Nigeria Police, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), and the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Agency (LNSA) are on hand to observe the destruction.
They were also on hand to ensure that no shady characters gained access to the site in Ewu-Elepe, Ikorodu, Lagos.

‘We are here to execute the court order in respect of the destruction of hard drugs recovered by the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos State Command,’ said DCP Ahmed Kontagora, who led the operation. We have approximately 4000 wraps of various types of drugs recovered by RRS in the last month, such as indian hemp, cannabis, and so on. The drugs are worth more than N10 million, and we have a court order to destroy them.’

‘There have been arrests. Three people have been charged in court. That is why we obtained a court order authorising the destruction of these items. We have men from the NDLEA, NAFDAC, and other relevant state agencies here,’ he said.
