Nigeria Super Eagles defile the Pharaohs of Egypt’s unbeaten record by a goal

On Tuesday in Garoua, Cameroon, the Nigeria Super Eagles defeated the Egyptian Pharaohs 1 – 0 in their group stage match in the ongoing 33rd Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles were powerful and impressive throughout the game, putting them in first place in Group D.

Nigeria’s victory today ended Egypt’s unbeaten streak. At the last Africa Cup of Nations, the Pharaohs went undefeated in their last 16 group matches.

Egypt’s last loss in the group stage came in the 2004 tournament, when they were defeated 2-1 by Algeria.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the game’s only goal in the 30th minute, assisted by Taiwo Awoniyi.

Nigeria and Egypt are meeting for the ninth time at the Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria has four wins to Egypt’s two, despite the fact that the Pharaohs won their last meeting in 2010 before today’s game (3-1 in the group phase).

Nigeria is competing in the Africa Cup of Nations for the 19th time. In 14 of their last 16 AFCON appearances, they have advanced to the semi-finals, winning the competition three times.
