At the Interagency Security Seminar themed “Multiplicity of Operations in Nigeria’s Contemporary Security Landscape: Optimizing Multi-Agency Efforts for Effective Threat Response”, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, highlighted the crucial need for real-time intelligence sharing. The seminar, organized by the Army War College Nigeria Course 9/2025, was held at the TYB Auditorium, ACWN, Wu Bassey Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja.
Gaidam emphasized the importance of bridging critical gaps in Nigeria’s security framework through collaborative efforts. He proposed joint training exercises and scenario-based drills as vital measures to build trust and enhance operational synergy among security agencies. The Minister also underscored the potential of advanced technologies—such as surveillance systems, artificial intelligence, and digital forensics—in strengthening security operations.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s security challenges, Gaidam described the country’s evolving threats, ranging from insurgency in the North-East to separatist movements in the South-East, organized crime in the South-South and South-West, and banditry in the North-West and North-Central regions. He observed that these threats are exacerbated by economic inequalities, governance issues, and sophisticated criminal enterprises exploiting technology and unregulated spaces.
To combat these challenges, Gaidam advocated for a holistic approach that integrates military forces, law enforcement agencies, intelligence services, and civil society stakeholders. He stated that multi-agency collaboration is not optional but essential for addressing contemporary security threats.
Additionally, he stressed the significant role of civilian engagement through community policing initiatives and stronger police-community relations. These measures, he explained, would bolster intelligence-gathering efforts and improve preventive security measures.
Earlier, Major General Babagana Mohammed Monguno (Rtd), a guest lecturer at the seminar, reiterated the importance of military operations in ensuring peace and stability. He called for a comprehensive strategy to address the persistent security threats across the nation.
