Alhaji Mai Aliyu Muhammed, National Population Commission (NPC) Federal Commissioner, is dead.

Muhammed who represented Yobe State in the commission, according to statement issued by Mrs Nkoyo Nwakusor, acting Director, Public Affairs, died on Sunday, April 21 while performing the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia, and has been buried according to the Islamic rites.

“He was appointed and sworn-in as the NPC Federal Commissioner, Yobe State by former President Muhammadu Buhari on 28th October 2020 for a 5-year tenure,” the statement added.

It extolled the virtues of the late Muhammed and said he “worked tirelessly to promote the noble objectives of the commission and made invaluable contributions towards the preparation for the forthcoming first digital population and housing census in Nigeria.

“He brought to bear on the smooth conduct of the commission’s activities his wealth of experience, vast contact and goodwill. He was a very pleasant personality and related freely across all divides.

“He will therefore be sorely missed for his contributions to population issues and national development as well as his fatherly role in the commission.”
