NTPIC Strengthens Stakeholder Collaboration to Drive Effective Tax Reforms in Nigeria

By The People’s Voice Nigeria News

The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) has advanced its stakeholder engagement initiative with a high-level consultative session involving leading tax advisory firms, professional bodies, and institutional representatives. The session was aimed at ensuring effective implementation of Nigeria’s recently enacted tax reforms.

The institutions were represented by their national presidents, while advisory firms were represented by their senior tax partners.

Addressing participants, NTPIC Chairman Mr. Joseph Tegbe emphasized that the success of the reforms would rely on effective change management, clear communication, and public trust—not just policy design. He reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to collaborating with sub-national governments through the Joint Revenue Board and other institutions to harmonize interpretation, build capacity, and ensure alignment across federal and state tax administrations.

Participants welcomed the reforms, noting that they are timely, structural, and focused on strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal framework rather than short-term revenue gains. The discussions were contextualized within the Federal Government’s broader reform agenda to improve long-term fiscal sustainability, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

While recognizing the robustness of the legislative framework, participants highlighted the need for consistent interpretation across institutions and clear operational guidelines to prevent fragmented enforcement. They also recommended that implementation be supported by coordinated public education strategies, helping citizens and businesses understand the reforms’ impact while reinforcing principles of fairness, proportionality, and national development.

Concluding the session, Mr. Tegbe expressed gratitude to participants for their engagement and reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to structured consultation and timely resolution of concerns.

The meeting included Barrister Ismael Ahmed, Chairman of the Stakeholder Engagement Subcommittee; Mr. Ajibola Olomola, Chairman of the Technical Subcommittee; and other members of the NTPIC Secretariat.
