The Nigerian business community mourns the passing of Pascal Gabriel Dozie, a pioneer of modern banking and a catalyst for the telecommunications revolution in the country. Dozie, who passed away on April 8, 2025, a day shy of his 86th birthday, leaves behind a legacy of innovation, integrity, and transformational leadership.

Born on April 9, 1939, in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, Dozie was a trailblazer whose career epitomized resilience and foresight. In 1990, he founded Diamond Bank, which redefined banking in Nigeria by prioritizing customer-centric services and adopting innovative financial solutions. Under his stewardship, Diamond Bank became a hallmark of professionalism, inclusivity, and technological advancement, paving the way for Nigeria’s digital banking era.

Beyond his success in banking, Dozie made indelible contributions to Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape. As the pioneer chairman of MTN Nigeria, he played a pivotal role in driving connectivity across the country, helping millions gain access to mobile communication and contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

Dozie’s intellectual foundation was shaped by his studies at the prestigious London School of Economics, where he earned a degree in Economics and a Master’s in Administrative Science. Over the years, he wore many hats, including serving as a director of the Central Bank of Nigeria and as president of the Nigerian Stock Exchange. His dedication to economic growth and community development earned him the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Pascal Dozie was more than a businessman; he was a mentor, philanthropist, and visionary. His story is one of courage, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of entrepreneurs, economists, and leaders.

As the management and staff of Babnans Network Communications, publishers of The People’s Voice Nigeria News, we bid farewell to a trailblazing leader and celebrate the tremendous legacy he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Pascal Gabriel Dozie.
