On Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, demonstrated exceptional religious tolerance by preaching at a pre-Ramadan lecture in Lagos. His unprecedented gesture surprised many Muslim faithful who attended the event, showcasing unity and mutual respect.
Primate Ayodele’s sermon centered on the theme of love, emphasizing that God’s primary desire for humanity is to express love, regardless of religious differences. He stated, “The only thing God wants is love. I am not against any religion because that’s not what I came into life for. I am only seeking God and doing things for God. I don’t care if anyone dislikes me, as long as God does. I am happy for what you’ve done—it was God who inspired you to invite me, and I appreciate you for extending the invitation.”
He encouraged the attendees to embrace love, highlighting that true love for humanity protects one from harm. He further explained that without love, sin proliferates, causing God to distance Himself from humanity. “If you have love, no one can successfully do anything against you. Sin is what makes love far from us, and Allah is Love. If I didn’t love, I wouldn’t be here,” he added.
Primate Ayodele also called on President Tinubu to implement capital punishment for those who fight or kill in the name of religion, suggesting that such individuals should be considered bandits. “We urge Tinubu to create laws regarding religion. Anyone who fights or kills for religion should be killed. Anyone who fights because of religion should be considered a bandit. I am grateful for this invitation,” he stated.
In a gesture of goodwill, Primate Ayodele made a donation to the Muslim community and promised to do more during Ramadan. Notably, his relationship with the Muslim community has always been cordial, with his church comprising both Muslim and Christian congregants. He believes that every religion can peacefully coexist as long as there is love.
Primate Ayodele’s belief in interfaith harmony is also evident in his initiation of a mosque project, inviting Etsu Nupe, Imams, and Muslim leaders to perform its groundbreaking ceremony. Additionally, during Ramadan, he shares food items with the Muslim community, further demonstrating his unwavering love for Islam.
