Promasidor Nigeria’s Alignment with National Dairy Development Programme Drives Increased Local Milk Production and Economic Growth
By The People’s Voice Nigeria News
Promasidor Nigeria, a leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s dairy value chain through its alignment with the National Dairy Development Programme, a collaboration that is delivering measurable results by expanding local milk production and improving access to affordable, high-quality dairy products nationwide.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. François Gillet, disclosed that Promasidor’s sustained investment in the Ikun Dairy Farm has significantly boosted domestic dairy output while creating a sustainable and inclusive framework that supports national economic development.
According to Gillet, Promasidor established the Ikun Dairy Farm in 2019 in partnership with the Ekiti State Government, with an initial operational investment of US$5 million, followed by subsequent capital injections to expand capacity and scale operations.
“As a market leader in quality food and beverage products, the National Dairy Development Programme is a critical part of our long-term strategy to localise raw material sourcing, strengthen Nigeria’s dairy ecosystem, and ensure the consistent delivery of nutritious milk products to consumers,” Gillet said.
Currently home to over 750 high-yielding cattle, the Ikun Dairy Farm is Nigeria’s largest dairy farm, reflecting Promasidor’s growing investment in local milk production since inception. The facility deploys advanced dairy management systems, including routine artificial insemination techniques aimed at maximising heifer births and ensuring sustainable herd expansion.
Beyond milk production, the Ikun Dairy Farm has emerged as a catalyst for socio-economic development in its host community. The project provides direct employment to over 200 local residents and supports more than 1,000 indirect jobs across surrounding communities, contributing to job creation, wealth generation, and broader economic growth in Ekiti State. These operations are supported by experienced veterinary doctors and professionally trained dairy practitioners.
To further guarantee long-term sustainability, Promasidor has invested in a robust feed security programme, cultivating over 500 hectares of maize and soya beans to ensure consistent, high-quality nutrition for the herd.
Promasidor’s long-standing commitment to Nigeria’s food sector dates back to March 1993, when the company disrupted the market with the introduction of Cowbell Milk sachets, a pioneering innovation that reshaped dairy consumption patterns nationwide.
In line with its social impact agenda, Promasidor has extended the benefits of its dairy operations to education through the “Ikun Milk Day” initiative, under which fresh milk sourced directly from the Ikun Dairy Farm is distributed weekly to public primary school pupils in the Ikun Community to support their health, well-being, and learning outcomes.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Promasidor Nigeria remains committed to delivering long-term value to consumers, communities, and the national economy through continuous investment in innovation, quality standards, and sustainable local production. The company’s diverse brand portfolio includes Cowbell, Loya, Miksi, Toptea, Onga, Twisco, and Kremela.
Located in Ikun-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the Ikun Dairy Farm, spanning over 500 hectares, stands as a flagship example of how strategic alignment with the National Dairy Development Programme can drive food security, job creation, and sustainable industrial growth in Nigeria.
