Q4’23: Metered Electricity Customers Hit 5.84m

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has said that the total number of metered customers was 5,842,726 out of the total electricity customers of 13,162,572 in the last quarters of 2023, showing 7,319,846 un-metered customers. It also said that the distribution companies (DisCos) metered 111,225 electricity customers in the quarter, making the overall metering rate of electricity customers 44 39 per cent and installed 111,225 meters during the period under review.
These were contained in its quarterly report for last quarters of 2023 seen by New Telegraph yesterday. It said: “A total of 111,225 meters were installed in 2023/Q4, representing a decrease of 38,520 installations (-25.72%) compared to the 149,745 meters installed in 2023/Q3.
Out of the 111,225 new meter installations, 110,132 meters were installed under the MAP framework, 1,072 meters were installed under the Vendor Financed framework, and 21 meters were installed under the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP) framework.”
In terms of energy generation, NERC stated that gross available generation was 10,868.35gwh; total actual generation 9,789.87GWh and load factor 90.08 per cent; average hourly generation was 4,433.82MWh/h; October (4,452), November (4,399) and December (4,450). It added that 90.08 per cent of the available capacity of grid-connected plants in the country was utilised resulting in an average hourly generation of 4,433.82MWh/h.
