Rivers Crisis: Dele Momodu Speaks On Wike, Fubara Feud

A former presidential aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu on Thursday opened up on the political rivalry between the incumbent Governor of Rivers state, Similanayi Fubara and immediate past governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.
Momodu, a journalist and publisher of Ovation Magazine while featuring on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Thursday said the political rivalry between the duo is over the control of the state treasury.
It would be recalled that Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory have been at loggerheads since the governor assumed office on May 29, 2023.
The political crisis has affected the state House of Assembly, local government Chairmen, and some state commissioners loyal to both parties.
Following the intense battle, President Bola Tinubu intervened and prevailed on both factions to sign a peace pact.
Despite the peace accord, both parties and their loyalist have continued the cold war.
Speaking on the unending crisis, Momodu said: “They are fighting in Rivers because of politics only. They also need the money in Rivers.
“Tinubu has Wike in Rivers. They want him also to get hold of the state to not only give them votes, but a structure of money, structure of having direct access to the treasury Rivers State plays an important role in the election in Nigeria.”
