SEARCH AND RESCUE: TROOPS LAUNCHES SEARCH FOR MISSING PERSONNEL

The Nigerian Army has initiated a search and rescue campaign for a soldier who went missing in action while responding to a distress call about an attack on the Tati hamlet in Taraba State’s Takum Local Government Area.

“Troops of 93 Battalion have launched out, on a search and rescue mission for a personnel who is missing in action while responding to a distress call of an attack on Tati community, in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba state in the early hours of Tuesday, May 20 2022,” the Army’s Spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, said in a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOS.

“The forces had launched out promptly on getting a distress call that the Tati community was being attacked and razed by suspected bandits,” according to the statement. During their pursuit of the bandits, the troopers were ambushed by the crooks. Through the ambush, the troopers fought valiantly, killing four of the bandits.

“Unfortunately, six brave men paid the ultimate price during the firefight, and one personnel remains missing in action.” However, a reinforcement team from 6 Brigade deployed against fleeing bandits at Ananum village in the state’s Donga Local Government Area neutralised two more bandits and recovered one Ak 47 rifle, one pistol, one locally fabricated gun, two AK 47 magazines, 19 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, seven rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and three motorcycles.”

Troops are currently pursuing the bandits and will not stop until all of the missing personnel have been found.

Residents of Taraba State are urged to be watchful and report any suspicious activity to security services.
