Seme Customs Command Records Historic ₦15.6bn Revenue in 2025, Intensifies Anti-Smuggling Operations
By The People’s Voice Nigeria News
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has recorded its highest revenue performance since inception, generating a total of ₦15.6 billion in 2025, representing a 117 per cent increase over its 2024 collection.
According to the Command, its December 2025 revenue hit a historic high of ₦3.63 billion, the highest monthly figure ever recorded by the Seme Command.
Officials attributed the milestone to the effective implementation of the One-Stop Shop (OSS) initiative, introduced by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, which has improved coordination, compliance, and trade facilitation along the Seme corridor.
Data released by the Command showed that between January and December 2025, it generated ₦15,598,945,794, a sharp rise from the ₦7.17 billion recorded in 2024.
Beyond revenue generation, the Command strengthened its social and environmental impact during the year. On November 11, 2025, it hosted the launch of the Green Border Initiative, led by the National President of the Customs Officers Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi. The programme featured the distribution of industrial sewing machines, grinding machines, gas burners with cylinders, and start-up grants to members of the COWA Seme Chapter.
On the same day, the Comptroller-General also launched a free medical outreach under the Customs Cares Initiative, providing healthcare services to over 1,000 beneficiaries, alongside a tree-planting exercise to promote environmental sustainability.
In line with federal directives, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, also reduced checkpoints along the Lagos-Abidjan corridor to the two officially approved locations, a move that significantly eased cross-border trade, reduced delays, and improved operational efficiency.
The Command also recorded major successes in its anti-smuggling operations. In December 2025 alone, officers seized 685 parcels of Cannabis sativa, 495 packs of Tramadol, and 2,000 packs of Super Power Sildenafil tablets (300mg) during intelligence-led operations supported by enhanced patrols, risk profiling, and inter-agency collaboration.
Comptroller Adenuga warned smugglers that the Seme border was no longer conducive for illegal activities, stressing that offenders would be intercepted and prosecuted using advanced intelligence, technology, and sustained vigilance.
He, however, assured legitimate traders and compliant stakeholders of a safe and efficient operating environment, noting that Customs remains committed to facilitating lawful trade and supporting economic growth.
The Area Controller expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General and the NCS management for their support, while commending officers and men of the Command, sister security agencies, traditional and community leaders, and the media for their cooperation. He pledged even stronger performance by the Command in 2026.
