The Senior Pastor of the Straightgate Church, Lagos Rev. Paul Ndeobi, on Saturday, said that; without restructuring the country president Muhammadu Buhari’s successor may not performance better.
Ndeobi, a prolific preacher, an Ambassador of Peace and social commentator, made the projection at an Award and inauguration of the Progressive Women of Goodwill (PWGW) held in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos reports that, Nigeria is the period of transition ahead of the 2023 general election, with opinion leaders envisaging the outcome and expectations.
The award, tagged “Restoring Family Values” was to encourage individuals and organisations for their pro-human stance in various areas of the society.
The awardees included Pastor Pual Ndeobi, Apostle Daniel Udah, Apostle David Odi, Pastor Daniel Osagie and Mr Ade Adeyemo.
In his remark at the event, against the backdrop of bad governance Ndeobi expressed dismay on the subsisting posture of the Nigerian polity.
He stated that; only a restructuring of the country to conform autonomy to the federating units could make the country functional again.
He said that the role of a good father was to discover the talents of everyone in the family.
He tasked men to allow their spouses to be the best of their dream career.
According to him Nigeria needs restructuring and not election to assert its leadership role in Africa.
“With the kind of the present Nigerian constitution, it will be difficult for anybody that will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari to perform better.
“If we must get it right this time restructuring should be the focus of everyone.
“We need to restructure Nigeria so that any new president that is coming in can build on a solid foundation but when you are building on a faulty foundation.
“The people will keep having problem and the will keep expecting the president to perform magic, but can only make do with the subsisting despondency as the leader cannot do much with an already faulty foundation,” he said.
The Gospel preacher, the nation’s under-development that has been having negative bearing on people; said that an autonomy for the units control their resources would engender healthy competition among the units.
He said that; with the present constitution the National Assembly and the judiciary would remain at the pleasure of the executive thereby continue to make the principle of saperation of power that is the engine of a functional democracy ineffective.
He further said that he refrained from campaiging for anyone ahead of the general election because of the nation’s lopsided nature that has not paid off since inception.
The people would be happy, proud and end to agitations would only when the polity undergo a restructuring that suits it’s diversity.
Also, Pastor Mrs Chioma Ndeobi, the founder and president of Progressive Women of GoodWill noted that the NGO was created to tackle root causes of family breakages, marital violence and to bring succor to matured singles that were unloved by society and families.
She said the group would employ practical steps in restoring family values and to see that divorce cases are reduced.
“The way we are trying to curb domestic violence is to have a role model.
We decided to first of all honour those men that have stood with their wives. Despite the women short comings and somehow bad characters they are still there for their wives they didn’t throw them away or divorce them. Or abuse them physically or emotionally, it means that they have tolerance. When we honour these men other younger men can emulate,” she stated.
The awardees include Apostle Daniel Udah, Apostle David Odi, Pastor Daniel Osagie, and Mr Ade Adeyemo.
