Zion Prayer Movement Refutes Claims Linking Evangelist Ebuka Obi to Blogger’s Detention
By The People’s Voice Nigeria | News
The Zion Prayer Movement Outreach has categorically denied recent media reports suggesting that its Spiritual Director, Evangelist Ebuka Obi, is responsible for the prolonged detention of a blogger, Harrison Ofoegbu, popularly known as “Ijele Speaks.”
At a press conference held in Lagos on Saturday, the ministry’s Media Adviser, Mr. Dan Aibangbe, along with members of its legal team, described the allegations published by Sahara Reporters as false and misleading. They clarified that Ofoegbu had been granted bail on August 15, 2024, after meeting all required conditions, and his continued detention is unrelated to Zion Ministry or Evangelist Obi.
According to the ministry, Ofoegbu remains in custody due to separate legal cases, including one at the Federal High Court in Awka, Anambra State. The ministry accused Sahara Reporters of knowingly omitting this vital detail and instead choosing to misinform the public.
Addressing journalists, Mrs. Ugonna Okpara from Zion Ministry’s legal team presented court documents confirming Ofoegbu’s release order. She further explained that during a recent inquiry by the presiding judge, Ofoegbu’s defense counsel confirmed that his continued detention is tied to an ongoing legal matter unconnected to the Zion Prayer Movement or Evangelist Obi.
Other members of the legal team, including Mr. Kingsley Okigbo and Mrs. Gerty Iloegbunam, called on journalists to independently verify the facts by reaching out to the relevant Correctional Center. They also urged media outlets to prioritize accuracy and avoid being swayed by sensationalism or unverified reports.
Zion Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to truth and fairness, urging the public to disregard the false narratives circulating in the media.
