By The People’s Voice Nigeria News
The Zone 2 Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos, has dismantled a nationwide engine oil adulteration syndicate, arresting a 26-year-old suspect and recovering 280 gallons of counterfeit lubricants distributed across multiple states.
The breakthrough was announced by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, mni, psc, mnim, as part of the Command’s intensified operations against economic sabotage and related offences.
According to the police, the operation followed a formal petition alleging the unlawful adulteration of a branded engine oil product. Acting on the complaint, detectives from the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit launched an intelligence-led investigation which exposed a distribution network spanning several states of the federation.
The suspect, identified as Ngwu Samuel Ebezimakor, 26, was arrested during the operation. Preliminary investigations revealed that he allegedly masterminded the production and importation of adulterated engine oil products from China before distributing them across Nigeria.
Police operatives recovered a total of 280 gallons of the fake engine oil from multiple locations in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, and Ogun States.
Further technical verification by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria confirmed that the recovered products failed to meet the requirements of the relevant Nigerian Industrial Standards, thereby posing potential risks to consumers and legitimate businesses.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lawful enterprises, AIG Fayoade warned that economic sabotage and related crimes would not be tolerated under his watch. He stressed that individuals involved in counterfeiting and distribution of substandard products would face the full weight of the law.
The Zone 2 Command urged members of the public and stakeholders in the automotive and lubricant sectors to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, assuring residents of Lagos and Ogun States of sustained intelligence-driven operations to protect lives, property, and the nation’s economy.
