We’ll shut down Nigeria if fuel prices increase – Niger Delta activist

Israel Joe, a Niger Delta rights activist, has asked the Federal Government not to implement its proposed increase in petroleum product prices.

He warned that if the Federal Government went ahead with the plan, civil society organisations would not hesitate to shut down Nigeria.

Joe said in a statement issued in Warri that Nigerians would no longer endure the hardships imposed on them by the current central government.

“Nigerians will no longer bear the hardships imposed on us by this regime,” he stated. We eagerly awaited the President’s speech, although it was unclear if the subsidy would be revoked or not.

“However, we have learned from a credible source that the Nigerian government intends to eliminate the subsidy on petroleum products by the end of February.”

“Let it be known that the Federal Government of Nigeria has not advanced any superior logical argument about the benefits of eliminating subsidy, as it has never pondered on the lives of ordinary Nigerians, but has instead inflicted anguish, pains, insecurity, and stress on them.”

“It is necessary to notify the general population that if the Federal Government announces any increase in petroleum products, we would shut down Nigeria.”

The Delta State civil society organisations will convene to make a decision on this, but I can declare with confidence that we will shut down the economy.
