AIG Jimoh Orders Crackdown on Violent Crimes After Strategic Security Meeting with Lagos, Ogun Police Chiefs

By The People’s Voice Nigeria News

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has convened a strategic security meeting with the Commissioners of Police in Lagos and Ogun States, alongside senior officers, to review prevailing security situations and reinforce compliance with directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police.

The meeting, held at the Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, featured detailed briefings on crime trends, operational challenges, and security dynamics across both states. Discussions focused on strengthening operational alertness, enhancing coordination, and deploying intelligence-led and technology-driven policing strategies. Emphasis was also placed on rapid response mechanisms and strategic deployment of personnel and resources to tackle violent crimes and emerging threats.

AIG Jimoh underscored the importance of proactive, people-centred policing and stronger collaboration between commands and other security agencies. He called for improved intelligence gathering, sustained surveillance patrols, targeted raids on criminal hideouts, and increased visibility policing to maintain peace and security. He also urged heightened vigilance as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

In a key directive, the AIG ordered an immediate halt to the transfer of cases from state commands to the zonal headquarters. He explained that complaints and petitions should be handled by the respective state commands, with the zonal headquarters providing support where necessary to ensure thorough investigations and justice.

The AIG further directed strict adherence to the Inspector-General’s directives, particularly regarding professionalism and conduct during patrols and investigations. He warned that any officer found culpable of misconduct would face disciplinary action, citing the recent dismissal of five police inspectors over offences related to discreditable conduct and human rights violations as a clear demonstration of zero tolerance for indiscipline.

The Commissioners of Police for Lagos and Ogun States, in their remarks, reported notable improvements in personnel conduct and performance, while reaffirming their commitment to full compliance with directives and continued collaboration to sustain security gains.

AIG Jimoh expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for providing logistics and support that have contributed to operational successes and reduced crime rates. He also commended the Governors of Lagos and Ogun States for their ongoing support, including the provision of patrol vehicles, training programmes, and other resources that have strengthened policing capacity.

Reiterating his stance, the AIG issued a marching order to crush violent crimes through intensified 24-hour surveillance, stop-and-search operations, and prompt investigation of criminal activities, while ensuring transparency and public trust.

The Zone 2 Command reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high policing standards in line with international best practices.
