NAF BEGINS ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE ITS 58TH ANNIVERSARY

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has begun preparations for its 58th anniversary celebration, which will take place from May 19 to 21, 2022 at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kano. This was revealed today at a news conference held at the Headquarters NAF, Abuja, by Air Commodore Olasunkanmi Abidoye, Chairman, Organizing Committee, NAF Day 2022 Celebration/Reunion.

The Chairman also revealed that the anniversary’s theme, “Enhancing Nigerian Air Force Efficiency in Joint Operations for Effective Response to Contemporary National Security Imperatives,” is intended to emphasise a renewed focus on joint military operations and effective synergy among the Services and other security agencies, as well as consolidating on the gains of the use of airpower, particularly at this critical stage in the country’s history.

The subject also aligns with Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, the Chief of the Air Staff, who wants to “improve and sustain vital airpower capabilities required for joint force employment in pursuit of national security imperatives.”

The Chairman also revealed that a series of activities have been planned to educate Nigerians about the NAF’s efforts in the country’s fight against insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of criminality. He mentioned that a seminar and an aerial demonstration by several NAF platforms would be part of the celebration.

“A number of pre-event activities will take place at NAF units around the country at the same time,” he said. On Friday, May 13 and Sunday, May 15, 2022, these activities will feature Juma’at Prayers and an Interdenominational Church Service.” He went on to say that there would be medical outreaches to host communities around the country, as well as humanitarian support efforts by the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) in Kano.

The Chairman stated that the celebration’s events were aimed at gaining consent and support, as well as thanking Nigerians for their support and goodwill throughout the years.

The Chairman went on to say that the conference, which is set to take place on May 19, 2022, will provide an opportunity for seasoned specialists to submit papers on air-to-ground integration and operational efficiency, as well as optimising NAF systems for effective joint force employment.

The Seminar’s main goal, he said, was to present practical methods for addressing the nation’s many security concerns. He also mentioned that the anniversary will see the Pulling Out Ceremony of soldiers of the 35th and 36th Regular Course who had recently resigned from the Army.

On Friday, May 20, 2022, a golf tournament will be conducted in Kano, and other sporting events will be held simultaneously in other NAF units around the country, as well as a Re-union Night to honour those retired senior officers of the NAF who have served the country for many years.

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, the centennial celebrations will come to a close with a ceremonial parade, symbolic fly-past, R & D exhibition, and photo gallery display. The event’s Special Guest of Honour is slated to be the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR.
