DSP ADEH: ‘CP BABAJI SUNDAY TO TRACK DOWN ORIGINATORS OF FAKE NEWS’; PRAISES IGP BABA FOR SUPPORTING THE FCT COMMAND

The menace of fake news which has increased anxiety and distrust in the nation’s capital, Abuja is receiving adequate attention of the Nigeria Police. This information was made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP during a courtesy visit led by the President, Comrade Oki Samson in a brief chat with the FCT Police PRO, DSP Josephine Adeh in her office at the FCT Command headquarters, Abuja.
Affirming that the situation in Abuja is calm and that everyone is going about their business, DSP Josephine Adeh said: ‘There is no cause for alarm. The only challenge we had was when this fake news was flying around and we have been trying to manage it. The issue has escalated panic among the public.’

‘The CP Babaji Sunday is not sitting down and has set up a committee to track down the originators of this fake news. We will get them. They will be sanctioned according to the law and we will use them as example for others. So if you are fond of spreading fake news, desist from it. We are coming for you.’
She pleaded with the populace, ‘Meanwhile we urge members of the public to disregard any information that is not from the right authority. The IGP Usman Alkali Baba has graciously added more Police personnel to what we have on ground. These are measures to keep FCT safe. Members of the public should be law-abiding and trust the Police. There is no cause for alarm’.
On the clampdown on SPY number plates, Adeh told NAOSNP: ‘We remove and seize the plate numbers from those with it, even VIPs. The members of the public are cooperating. This was after we made the announcement. We even told members of the public that if you have the plate numbers, just remove it yourself and submit it.

Those who cover their plate numbers, we remove the covers. You should expose your plate numbers, there is nothing to hide about it. We are not working alone. We are working with VIO and other agencies.’
On the heightened political activities in the nation, NAOSNP can report that the FCT Police is active. ‘We are monitoring political activities. They are free to campaign but campaign with your voice not criminals. Cast your votes peacefully. If you break the law, we will apprehend you and make you face the law’, the FCT Police PRO said.
