FRSC confirms Five people dead after a trailer collides with a passenger bus in Maryland
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that five people were killed after an articulated vehicle skidded off its lane and collided with a tipper and a commuter bus at a Maryland bus stop inward Ojota.
According to the Corps’ Public Education Officer, Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, the accident occurred late Thursday and involved an articulated truck with registration number YYB-112XA, a Lagos-coloured commercial bus (danfo) with registration number KRD-672XE, and a tipper laden with granite, the registration number of which was unknown at the time of filing this report.
According to the statement, “the trailer, which was on its way to Anthony, lost control and skidded across the stone pavement before colliding with an oncoming tipper and a commercial bus carrying passengers.”
A total of fifteen (15) people (12 males and 3 females) were involved in the crash, while five adults (4 males and 1 female) lost their lives as a result of fatal head injuries. The others were rushed to a nearby hospital by first responders. The bodies were handed over to SEHMU at the scene, and the crashed vehicles were removed from the road. LASEMA officials, along with the FRSC, Nigeria Police, and LASAMBUS, were on the ground to assist.
Meanwhile, the Lagos FRSC Sector Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, has reaffirmed his Command‘s commitment to doing the right thing through strict enforcement and advocacy, while sympathising with the families of the deceased and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
