Jos: 24-Year Old Student Remanded For Stealing Gas Cylinder

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday, sentenced a 24-year-old student identified as Ayobami Analowo, to six months in prison for stealing a gas cylinder.

Ayobami whose address and school remain unknown was accused on a one-count charge of theft.

New Telegraph reports that the judge, Shawomi Bokkos sentenced the student after he admitted guilty to the offence.

Bokkos’ ruling also included an option of an N20,000 fine.

The judge expressed hope that other individuals would learn from Analowo’s case and that his sentencing “would serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders”.

Ibrahim Gokwat, the prosecution lawyer, had earlier informed the court that the incident had been duly reported by the complainant, Abraham Godwin.

On March 2, Godwin filed a report for his lost cylinder at the Jos police station in Plateau state.

Gokwat further claimed the convict unlawfully entered Godwin’s home and stole the gas cylinder.
