The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man, identified as Tomswell Feyi, over the alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
The suspect, who reportedly lives on the same street as the child on Aiyetoro Street, Ebute Metta, was accused of sexually assaulting the girl in his room.
The incident was reported to the police by the victim’s mother, prompting an investigation that was subsequently transferred from the Yaba Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani.
According to a police source, the girl’s father had sent her on an errand to buy bread at about 9 p.m. on October 15.
Her mother reportedly became concerned when the child had not returned home approximately 20 minutes after leaving.

Concerned by the circumstances, the mother reportedly searched the suspect’s room, where she found her daughter crying.
The source said the woman discovered that the child was bleeding from her vaginal area and immediately took her away.
The girl is reportedly receiving medical treatment at a government hospital following the incident.
Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody as detectives attached to the Gender Unit of the SCID, Panti, investigate the case.
The police source added that the suspect had been profiled and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The allegations are yet to be established in court.
