By The People’s Voice Nigeria News
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Nasiru Amidu, over his alleged involvement in a gold fraud valued at ₦15.4 million.
The suspect is being investigated for alleged obtaining by false pretence and stealing following a complaint lodged by Alhaji Nasiru Salisu, Managing Director of NASS Gold Ventures.
According to police sources, the complainant alleged that on July 14, the suspect approached him to purchase gold worth ₦15,454,600 and assured him that payment would be made through a bank transfer after taking delivery of the consignment.
However, after receiving the gold, the suspect allegedly became unreachable.
Police sources further disclosed that when the suspect was later traced, he reportedly requested another consignment of gold valued at ₦6 million, promising to settle the outstanding balance of about ₦9 million from the earlier transaction.
The suspect allegedly failed to fulfil the promise and instead employed a similar method to obtain gold from other unsuspecting dealers.
Following the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, directed that the case be transferred from the Sabo Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for a comprehensive investigation.
A police source said investigators are working to establish the full extent of the alleged fraud, identify other possible victims, and recover any proceeds linked to the case.
The investigation is being handled by the Swift Enquiry Team of the SCID under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the department, DCP Dayo Akinbisehin.
Police authorities said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation. If you’re publishing this on WordPress, I can also provide an SEO package, including a meta description, focus keyphrase, slug, excerpt, image alt text, and social media caption.
