CP SPECIAL FRAUD UNIT LAGOS, OCHALLA WINS FEMALE POLICE COMMISSIONER OF THE YEAR

One of the important aims that the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) intends to achieve with its Annual National Security Conference is to reward excellent officers who have displayed deep, topnotch commitment to the course of protecting the internal security of Nigeria as well as its territorial integrity. Thus, it particularly looks out for deserving individuals in various security agencies.

 

The Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit (SFU) Lagos, CP Margaret Ochalla Agebe deserves commendation and got the NAOSNP Female Commissioner of Police of the year 2023 last Thursday 21st September. The Competent Investigator, Prosecutor, Supervisor, and Gender Coordinator/Focal person has served the Nigeria Police Force for about three decades.

 

 

In her exceptional policing career, CP Agebe has seen to the establishment of Uniform Specialized Police Units; establishment of Police Gender Desks across all Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria; and establishment of Gender Lab for analysis of cases including online reported gender related matters. She has also seen to the construction and operationalization of Specialized Children Police Unit in Maitama Area Command, Abuja which is the first of its kind in Nigeria; the inclusion of the Guidelines/Standard Operating Procedures in Police Force Order and Police Training Curriculum in Police Training Schools and Colleges; and the reactivation of the online reporting platform (www.fciidgender.net) for reporting of Sexual & Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and related cases.

 

Born in Ogoja, Yala LGA, Cross River state, CP Margaret Ochalla Agebe was the CP Anti-Fraud Unit, Force CID, Abuja before her current role. She was DCP Force Gender/Advisor to the IGP (2018 – 2022); ACP Force Gender Unit/Advisor to the IGP (2016 – 2018); Team Leader, IGP Monitoring Unit FHQ Abuja (2013 – 2016) and P.A. to 4 CPs Anambra Police Command, OC Monitoring Anambra (2004 – 2013).

 

The cerebral Margaret Ochalla holds 2 BSc in Sociology and Conflict Resolution and Refugee Management plus a MSc Peace and Conflict Studies. She attended the Training of Trainers on Gender Based Violence, Karen, Kenya; 35th Meeting of Interpol Specialized Group of Crime Against Children, Lyon, France; and has been attending the United Nation General Assembly on Women Status, New York, USA (CSW) since 2016 till date.

 

While receiving the NAOSNP Female Commissioner of Police of the year, the unassuming police cop Margaret Ochalla Agebe expressed her appreciation: “When I first got the letter for this award, I asked the President of the association ‘how did you get to know me, where did you hear my name? He said ‘we are aware of your works.’ Thank you very much, I pledge to do more.”

 

With the NAOSNP laurel, the member of International Association of Chief of Police (IACP) has added to her several awards and commendations obtained over the years. This includes the Global Women Hall of Fame 2017 (CELD) presented by the Sheik of Dubai; Africa Women Leadership Award received in South Africa and presented by His Excellency John Mahama, former President of Ghana; prestigious Female Humanitarian of the Year awarded by Prestigious Hall of Fame; National Security Award for Excellent Performance and Exemplary Leadership by the Federal Republic of Nigeria Senate Committee on Police Affairs; Improving Access to Justice Award, awarded by the Office of the Vice-President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and presented by former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN; Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the Nigeria Police and Mankind as a ‘’season cop’’ presented by Competent Governance for Accountability and Civic Trust; Ambassadorial Award as a Global Advocate on Gender Affairs presented by Global Gender Safety and Moral Development. Distinguished Global Amazon Award, Kigali, Rwanda in 2022; and the Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award of Excellence in 2023.
