Bisi Kolawole, backed by former Governor Ayodele Fayose, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the June 18 gubernatorial election of Ekiti State.

Kolawole polled 671 votes to defeat former governor of the state Segun Oni, who scored 330 votes, to come second.

Kolawole was announced the winner by the Chairman of the Ekiti State PDP Gubernatorial Primary Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa-Ibom State.

Other contestants and their results include Olusola Kolapo Eleka (93 votes), Wale Aribisala (56 votes), Kayode Adaramodu (10 votes), Biodun Olujimi (2 votes)

The total number of invalid votes is 13.

The PDP primary election was held at the Great Eagle Event Centre amidst tight security provided by men and officers of the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Department of State Service (DSS).

Abiodun Olujimi, Senator representing Ekiti South in the National Assembly, had earlier reported to have pulled out of the PDP primary election.

The lawmaker on Wednesday said she feels unwanted and disenfranchised, hence her decision to disqualify herself from the race

She added that she didn’t step down for any particular aspirant, urging her followers and supporters to vote for any one of their choice.

Olujimi was one of the main aspirants in the race to emerge as the PDP flagbearer for the 2022 Ekiti governorship election before she pulled out during the accreditation process for the primary election shortly before voting commenced.

Stating her reason for pulling out of the race, she said: “I feel disenfranchised, I feel like the party does not believe in my presence there. I believe the party does not believe in whatever I have done, so I have pulled out.”
