Justice Must Prevail in the Murders of Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye – Civil Rights Activists

By The People’s Voice Nigeria News

Concerned civil rights activists have renewed their call for justice over the murders of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami, who was killed on April 18, 2023, and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, the first son of the Ojomu of Ajiranland, who was killed on August 26, 2024, in Ajiran Community, Eti Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The group said its members paid a solidarity visit to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Olohundare Jimoh, who currently heads the Zone 2 Command covering Lagos and Ogun States, in recognition of what they described as his commitment to investigating the high-profile murder cases during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

According to the activists, recent media reports and social media campaigns aimed at discrediting the Nigeria Police Force and AIG Jimoh are attempts to undermine the ongoing judicial process. They urged the public to allow the courts to determine the issues surrounding the matter.

The group noted that AIG Jimoh assumed office as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, on February 18, 2025, and that a petition submitted by Olarotimi Williams Chambers requesting the investigation and prosecution of those allegedly responsible for the killings was promptly approved for investigation.

They stated that the investigation allegedly led to the arrest of two suspects, who reportedly made confessional statements that assisted investigators in tracing other persons of interest. They further alleged that the investigation resulted in the declaration of Lagos businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, also known as Ahmed Ajiran or Hamed Tajudeen, as a wanted person in connection with the case.

The activists further claimed that efforts were allegedly made by some individuals to influence the course of the investigation, but maintained that the police remained committed to ensuring justice. They also noted that Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi was subsequently arrested in the Republic of Benin before being brought back to Nigeria to face legal proceedings.

They emphasized that the matter is now before a competent court of law and, as such, refrained from making comments that could prejudice the ongoing trial. They expressed confidence that justice would ultimately prevail through the judicial process.

Describing AIG Olohundare Jimoh as a dedicated and professional police officer, the activists commended his leadership and commitment to the rule of law during his service as Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

The group called on members of the public to disregard unverified information and narratives circulating on social media regarding the case, urging everyone to respect the judicial process and allow the courts to deliver justice.

They concluded by reiterating their demand that all those found culpable through due process should be held accountable, stressing that justice for the late Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye remains essential to sustaining public confidence in the administration of justice.
