Yakoyo Market, a thriving commercial hub in Ojodu/Yakoyo community, has undergone a remarkable transformation 25 years after its commissioning. This achievement is attributed to the tireless efforts of Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke.
As the distinguished lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. Faleke has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of his constituents. The market’s story began in 1999 when Late Hon. Toyin Hamzat, then campaigning for chairman of Ikeja Local Government, visited the market. A heavy downpour exposed the market’s lack of shelter, prompting Hamzat to promise its reconstruction.
However, it was Faleke who voluntarily took on the responsibility of rebuilding the market in 2000, even before holding public office. His philanthropic efforts were evident in his investment of N42,000 in building each shop, which he allocated to shop owners at N11,000 each. The market was commissioned in 2000.
Faleke’s primary motivation was to provide humanitarian service, particularly during the rainy season, driven by his love for the people. As part of his constituency projects, Hon. Faleke oversaw the market’s rehabilitation and reconstruction, ensuring original shop owners would retain their shops.
The selfless service and philanthropic efforts of the federal lawmaker have earned him a reputation as a humanitarian. His dedication to the welfare of Ikeja Federal Constituency’s people is truly commendable.
