Stakeholders in the Security sector as well as established frontline industries have hailed the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) as one of the best media groups when it comes to publishing verified News, stressing that the Association is not in the business of fake news or misinformation.

The stakeholders from various security arms and other industries, including media, hospitality, and finance, gave their recommendations while speaking separately at the second edition of the Association’s Workshop for Media Practitioners with the theme, Role of Media in Curbing Fake News, Cyber Threat, and Other Sundry Security Threats: Destroying Menace Before It Destroys Us, held at the LCCI Expo and Conference Centre.

In his lecture, subtitled The Impact of Fake News on Media Credibility, at the event, veteran journalist and founder of JournalismNG, Mr. Oba Adeoye, noted that, having followed the group, he can attest that it is a no-no when it comes to publishing unverified information, stressing that the group is founded on professionalism and dedication to duty.

“While we cannot say that media houses are impeccable when the issue of fake news is raised, I can say that NAOSNP has maintained a level of genuineness that seems to set her apart from the rest, and periodically hosting meetings of this nature is a testament to the fact that they abhors false information,” Adeoye said.

On his part, the keynote speaker and Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, “noted that members of NAOSNP are not among those that give us trouble with fake and unverified stories, and that explains the reason we have a wonderful working relationship with them and maintain a high level of synergy in the onerous task of protecting lives and property.”

Also lending their voices to the trust reposed on NAOSNP as a purveyor of genuine narratives, the duo of the Media Consultant, FrieslandCampina WAMCO, Dr. Kunle Hamilton, and Unity Bank’s Head of Communications and Brand Management, Mr. Matthew Obiazikwor, reiterated that it has become imperatively necessary to applaud the association for living above board in the quest to dish out the facts to the public.

Speaking separately during the panel session, Hamilton and Obiazikwor insisted that their close encounters with some members of the Association have proven that they can be relied upon.

“While most people have thrived in trying to bring down banks, NAOSNP has maintained neutrality in reporting matters in the financial institution, especially our bank, Unity,” Obiazikwor informed.

In her speech, the Public Education Officer of the Lagos Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Superintendent Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, said that she always gets calls from the association to verify any stories concerning the Corps, and that makes it easier for her job.

“I applaud this group. They don’t publish until they have called to verify, and that helps curb fake narratives,” she said.

Also, the Deputy Commander Narcotics of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs. Titilayo Ogunluyi, was not left out of the eulogy that greeted NAOSNP’s professionalism in news broadcasting and its penchant for facts.

NAOSNP is an association of online news publishers with a special bias toward security, national interest, and the need to foster unity among the citizens of Nigeria. The group is led by Mr. Samson Oki as National President, Theresa Moses as General Secretary, Mr. Eric Elezuo as Public Relations Officer, and Mr. Bakenne Kazeem as Treasurer.

The association has been in existence for four years, holding three very successful National Conferences, two media workshops, and a road walk against societal menaces, among many other activities. It has reported activities and partnered with security agencies including the Military, Police, DSS, Customs, NDLEA, FRSC, Immigration, LASTMA, TRACE, Neighborhood Watch, Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), DSVA, all the banks, including FirstBank, Unity Bank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Union Bank, Fidelity Bank, Ecobank, and a host of others.

Other industries that have identified with the NAOSNP brand are FrieslandCampina Wamco, Dangote Group, Globacom, NCC, Zenith Sports, Sona Group, Nestle Nigeria, CWay, Haggai Sports, and many others.
