Despite not finishing on the podium, it was a good outing for Team Nigeria in the final of the World Relay’s 4x400m mixed relay in the Bahamas after finishing fourth behind the USA, Netherlands and Ireland albeit with a new African Record.

The quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Chidi Okezie and Esther Elo Joseph came quite close to finishing on the podium in the Mixed 4x400m, finishing 4th with an AR of 3:12.87.

The Nigerians were in a medal position after the 3rd leg but had to settle for 4th in the final, leaving The Bahamas with a new AR in the Mixed 4x400m.

The team already through to the Olympics will be looking forward to a better outing in Paris with the possibility of having other experienced athletes who missed the Bahamas trip like Omolara Ogunmakinju and Patience Okon-George.

Meanwhile, it was a total celebration in the Bahamas in the early hours of Monday with two more relay teams punching their tickets to Paris with the 4x100m men and women relay team securing qualifications to join the mixed relay team and the 4x400m men with only the 4x400m relay women still missing out as they failed to make an appearance in the Bahamas.
