PDP Remains United, Political Stable – Party Assures

NEC meeting will ensure cohesion and understanding

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has addressed rumours circulating about the convening of a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday to remove Ambassador Umar Damagun from his position as the acting National Working Chairman of the party.

The party clarified that NEC or  Board of Trustee (BoT) meetings serve as constitutional bodies to discuss various matters concerning the party’s affairs and unity for efficiency and administrative business not creating discomfort and political instability in the party affairs.

In response to these reports on Tuesday, Hon Yusuf Dingyadi, Senior Special Assistant to the PDP National Chairman on Media and Communications, dismissed them as unfounded rumours aimed at misleading Nigerians by certain groups of people who are interested in their personal gains.

He stated that the National Working Committee NWC of the party is currently meeting at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, with the intention of putting the finishing touches on the NEC meeting for Thursday this week to address any arising issues.

Dingyadi revealed that the proposed NEC meeting is expected to be attended by key figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President and PDP Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Minister of FCT Nyesom Wike, PDP governors, former governors, among others.

He urged Nigerians, especially party supporters, to remain calm and loyal to the party, emphasizing that the PDP remains unified without any factions.

Dingyadi acknowledged that internal crises are common in every political party globally and assured that the party leadership would take disciplinary actions against any member found sabotaging the party’s integrity and unity for cohesion and progress.

Furthermore, Dingyadi assured that the party is committed to resolving all issues amicably and maintaining its unity and progress, emphasizing that the PDP has remained consistent in its mission, values, and mandate for the nation’s development, hence promoting reconciliation and forgiveness rather than punishment.
