POLICE FOIL ATTACK ON DANGOTE REFINERY
– CP Alabi Emplaces Fortified Security
The Lagos state police command has disclosed that its operatives have foiled an attempt by armed hoodlums to vandalise power installations at the Dangote Refinery.
According to a press release e-signed to NAOSNP from Lagos State Police command, through the police public relations officer (PPRO), Benja Hundeyin said that the incident happened at about 11 am on Monday.
Dangote Oil Refinery is a 650,000 barrels per day (BPD) integrated refinery project under construction in the Lekki free trade zone area of Lagos state.
It is the Africa biggest oil refinery and the world’s biggest single-train facility.
Hundeyin said about armed hoodlums numbering about twenty (20) gained access to the refinery through the lagoon side were repelled while attempting to cart away already-installed armored cables in the refinery.
He said, “Some shootings occurred, one of them was hit, and the others escaped. They were about 20 in numbers. The one that was hit died on the way to the hospital.
“Meanwhile, on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi fdc, minm, psc, security at the refinery has been fortified and investigation has begun. No arrest has been made.”
