At the heart of the task of preserving the territorial integrity of Nigeria is the Nigerian Army – one of the three branches of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Well revered outside the borders for its sterling performance in peacekeeping, the Nigerian Army has not found it easy in the last 10 years at home due to the forays of terrorism, banditry, among others.

Despite that, the gallant troops are giving their best in the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Speaking exclusively with delegate executives members of the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP led by the National President, Comrade Oki Samson on the security challenges in the country, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sulaiman Adekunle Bamgbade (Ayodele III), Olofin of Isheri and Adimula of Awori Kingdoms who is an ex-soldier noted: ‘I must commend my brothers in the Nigerian Army for what they are doing. It is not easy. I have been there in the theatre of action so I must commend them. We need more synergy with the military.’

On his intervention in security in Isheri kingdom of Ogun state, ‘Since I came on the throne, some of them know I have the military background. For example, the first day I came on the throne, the Police wanted to arrest someone but I saw some indigenes trying to prevent it. I, as the leader, cooperated with the Police and gave them the support to pick anyone who has offended against the Nigerian state.

They know I won’t harbor them so the people who are not inclined to such had to relocate. That is not to say that I am the only one who was able to change the narrative, the security agencies have helped in the work, the village chiefs too bought into my ideology and we were able to take care of all these vices.’

HRM Oba Sulaiman Bamgbade added: ‘Within the short time I have been a traditional ruler, I recall that about forty fishermen came to report that they have been having low catch. They said there is a certain group of fishermen who are fishing in an unorthodox manner across the Lagos lagoon towards Ikorodu using a large net to cross the entire water so that even the smallest fish are not left behind and they have about forty to fifty boats to take the harvest.’

‘I summoned the Baales because those places are actually Olofin lands and asked if they had a hand in such and they said no, that I should call in the Marine Police Command which I did. I asked if he is aware of such fishing practices. When he got them, we found that none of them speak our language. I was able to get them to sign that they will not do such again and that’s how we got peace. I summoned the Head of the Kara market also. He made me know that this was the same way they killed their own waters in Sokoto state because of the damage to the ecology,’ he disclosed to NAOSNP.
