Wema Bank Celebrates 81st Anniversary and 9th Anniversary of ALAT, Rewards Customers

Wema Bank has marked its 81st anniversary alongside the 9th anniversary of ALAT, reinforcing its commitment to customer-centric innovation and inclusive financial growth.
The dual celebration, held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, highlights the bank’s legacy as Nigeria’s oldest indigenous national bank and a pioneer of digital banking in Africa. Unlike its grand 80th anniversary celebration in 2025, this year’s milestone is focused on giving back to customers.
As part of the celebrations, Wema Bank announced rewards for users on the ALAT app, alongside benefits for customers during the launch of Season 5 of its flagship “5 for 5” Reward Initiative. The initiative is designed to reward hundreds of customers as part of the anniversary festivities.
Aligned with its 81st anniversary theme, “Your Future of Possibilities, Powered by Wema Bank,” the bank also unveiled plans to roll out a specialised customer success programme. The initiative will provide tailored support and strategic guidance to various customer segments, including businesses, students, working-class women, and creatives, helping them access opportunities and accelerate progress toward their goals.
Speaking on the bank’s approach to the celebration, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, emphasised the importance of adapting to a rapidly evolving financial landscape.
